Giving the gift of community.
Identity design and art direction for Good Magazine Pop-Up Community center.
As an alternative to the traditional pop-up store that appears throughout the holiday season, GOOD magazine offered a new paradigm of “shopping” for the month of December, 2007, by transforming a commercial storefront into a community center. Centered around the themes of Media, Environment, Design, Technology, Design, Mobility, Culture, Business, Money, and Health, visitors were invited to make their own wrapping paper, exchange books, donate clothing and cell phones, play music and shuffleboard, and hang out in a Wi-Fi cafe.
The identity design embraced this new model of consumerism by reinterpreting the iconic symbol of consumerism – the barcode – and infusing it with the brand colors of GOOD magazine. Salvaged materials were used playfully in the space to create a comfortable, crafty experience.
