ABOUT:

From hand-sanitizer to pasturized cheese, America is the nation with the most severe sanitation laws.
Created in response to early pioneer needs, these laws protected early settlers from death and sickness.
Today, the fear of “other” has grown past food safety and encompasses social interactions and race relations.

To discuss the topic of fear, ellempire. uses the form of the dust mask as a symbol of protection. By casting it in porcelain, the form is abstracted and formalized.
A new relationship is thus formed between object and viewer, thereby questioning the object and its accepted meaning.
